Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell is a leaps and bounds upgrade from the previous model Skybell 2.0 version which had consistent reoccurring technical issues. This latest version has the highlighted feature of FREE video recording, so that you can download previously recorded videos at a later date. Other competing products usually charge a monthly fee for this service.
Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell has the additional feature called On Demand. This means you can, from your smart phone, activate the camera and view live your front door
It is important to consider the internet speed requirements; you will require a fast internet connection in order for optimal performance for this device (1.5 mbps upload). Please check with your internet provider before purchasing the product.
One of my favorite features of the Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell is the amount of third party integrations it has available including with the ever popular Amazon Echo and Google/ Alphabet’s Nest. The full impact of smart devices are always optimized when used in conjunction with other smart devices. Check out the summary of
There has been wide spread complaints about poor customer service offered by Skybell when trying to resolve issues, however they have shown proactivity when devices have been faulty.
Skybell HD Video Doorbell is a complete package in terms of essential features.
- Needs Fast Speed Internet: For optimal performance, the user should have a fast speed connection with 1.5mbps upload speeds.
- Wi-Fi: Needs a (802.11 b/g/n 2.4 Ghz) – Dualband routers should have a separate SSID for the 2.4GHz band.
- Power Compatibility: 8 to 36 VAC 10 VA or 12 VDC with an amp rate of 0.5 to 1.0.
Consistent Design: The Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell is consistent with the previous model Skybell Version 2.0, with a circular brick like design. I preferably like to have my doorbells look like doorbells rather than high tech hockey pucks.
Possible Mounting Issues: Due to the quite wide diameter of the Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell, it can be problematic mounting the device to the door frame. With the majority of door frames to be less than 2 inches, it is possible that your Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell will hang off the frame slightly. It may be necessary to mount slightly further away which will impact its ability to capture images of visitors.
Clean Colors: The Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell comes in two very clean colors, brushed aluminum and oil-rubbed bronze.
Notifications: A visitor presses the doorbell and the user receives a notification via the Skybell application on their smartphone. The user may then choose to speak, and view the visitor or ignore them completely.
Set-up: The Skybell HD Wifi Video Doorbell only comes in a wired option. Hopefully your existing doorbell will have the wires already installed so it is a simple process of connecting the wires and mounting the doorbell. You may need to hire an electrician if you have the possible mounting issues mentioned earlier to move the wires to a more appropriate location.
High Quality Video: Skybell has excellent video quality and most like the best available on the market right now.
Average Audio Quality: Skybell HD Video doorbell audio quality is passable due to some distortion and lag. Considering the price and the technology currently available, this should not be happening at this price point.
