Although technically not a Smart Doorbell, I wanted to include the Jacob Jensen Wireless doorbell for those who are looking for a high quality doorbell with none of the thrills. Unfortunately you would expect a wireless doorbell to have a lower price point than the others with far more advanced features, however the Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell is priced exactly the same.
If you’re in an older home there may come a time when you need to replace your doorbell and if you have a standard wired doorbell it can be a bit of a pain – especially if you’re not an electrician. If you want to simplify things you may want to consider the purchase of a wireless doorbell and the Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell is definitely one of the best. This doorbell features an elegant design which will fit right into any contemporary setting and best of all it’s completely wireless. Both the receiver and the pushbutton run on batteries so you don’t need an electrical degree to hook this gadget up. They even provide you with your initial set of batteries to get things started so you don’t even have to worry about that to begin with.
Jacob Jensen has a reputation in the industry for creating quality products and they don’t disappoint with this one. It’s well constructed with a sleek yet functional design. It’s no work of art, but it will certainly work on your door. With any type of wireless technology you’re always worried about a lost connection, but that never seems to happen with this product. It’s one of the most reliable wireless doorbells on the market.
The Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell has all of the features you’d expect to find in a quality doorbell. Here’s the breakdown:
Sleek and Modern: What I like about the design of this Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell is that it’s sleek and modern, but not so extreme that it would look out of place on an older home. It strikes the perfect balance between modern technology and a neutral design that will blend in whether you live in an old colonial home or an ultramodern house built in the last few years. It also features a blue LED light on both the pushbutton and receiver for notification purposes.
Simple, Elegant Color Scheme: Unfortunately, this product doesn’t come in a range of colors, but the one that the manufacturer has chosen is simple and elegant. It features a silver and black design divided by a stripe down the middle on the receiver and a similar design that separates the bottom and top half of the pushbutton. These neutral colors will work in almost any home environment and that’s probably why they selected them.
Wireless: We don’t want to forget about the most important part of the design of this product – it is wireless. The pushbutton is still designed to be mounted to your front door frame, but you don’t have to worry about hooking up any wires in the process. Both the pushbutton and the receiver get their power from replaceable batteries. That makes the Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell product a lot easier to connect than your typical wired doorbell, although you do have to keep in mind that you will have to replace the batteries from time to time which can be a bit of a pain.
Simple Controls: To access the volume control in the receiver you will have to remove the back and this requires the use of a small screwdriver to pry it off. It’s not difficult to do, but it would’ve been nice if they had the volume control accessible on the outside of the unit. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to go digging for a screwdriver every time I want to adjust the volume. It’s a drawback, but not a major problem.
Easy, but Time Consuming Setup: Setting up the Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell system is not difficult at all, but it is a little bit more time-consuming than other wireless doorbell products on the market. The hardest part is setting up the pushbutton, which does require you to remove the protective casing and remove the casing on the battery held on with four screws. Apparently, this design is in place to protect the battery from water damage, but it does make it a little bit painful getting this thing apart. Worst of all you’ll have to go through this process every time you want to change the batteries.
Difficult to Change Chimes: Another feature that can only be adjusted by taking the back off the push button is the chimes. The control for changing chime tones is located behind the battery compartment of the push button, which as we’ve already noted is a little difficult to access. There are five different chimes to choose from, but I have a feeling most people won’t bother changing them too often as their way too difficult to access.
Crystal Clear Sound: When it comes to the actual performance of this doorbell this product absolutely shines. Not only is the volume quite loud when you have it at its highest setting – it’s also crystal clear. My current doorbell has this sort of annoying fuzzy sound to it which quite frankly gets on my nerves so I’ve been looking for something to replace it with and after seeing this doorbell demonstrated it’s definitely got to make my short list. If there’s one feature of a wireless doorbell that’s more important than any other it’s the clarity of the sound, and in that department this doorbell holds its own against any other competitor.
No Lag: There are a lot of high-tech doorbells on the market today and many of them are great products, but there are also a lot of duds out there as well. The problem with wireless technology is that interference can get in the way of a clear signal and that’s the problem that often crops up with wireless doorbells. When the signal between your doorbell and the receiver is interfered with you may have to put up with some lag which means a few seconds between the time that someone pushes the button and actually hearing a notification through the receiver. This might not be the end of the world, but it’s certainly something I’d prefer to avoid. That is not a concern with the Jacob Jensen Wireless Doorbell, which has no noticeable lag at all.
Excellent Range: One other thing you need to consider when you’re looking at any kind of wireless technology is what kind of Range the product has. This doorbell has a range of up to 450 feet which should be more than adequate for anybody’s purposes – that is unless you’re living in a castle! When you consider the fact that the receiver can also be moved around the home there is no reason to ever miss any visitor at the door again.
